Olivia is an introvert photography major trying to find herself in a chaotic and meaningless world. Inspiration will come when she meets Marina an aspiring actress that will make Olivia question everything she thought she knew.
1917 is a well-acted and directed film whose aesthetics are visually captivating. However, where it falls short is its historical significance and missed-out enlightening opportunities. With a one-dimensional plot solely focused on the trek of one soldier to deliver a letter (sans taking into account the encapsulating wartime environment), 1917 is a suspenseful, gripping film whose appeal slowly fades throughout its repetitive runtime of just under two hours. Historical dramas (fictional or real) should take advantage of the carte blanche inherently given to them (by virtue of the already-written historical context) to educate its audience, a fundamental element of historically-established plotlines. 1917, however, lacks the poignancy that would have made the film a complete home-run, stopping at around third base.
